It’s been almost a week and a half since my first round of chemo and I’m doing alright. Side effects included nausea for the first two days and then from the white blood cell injection (Neulasta) I had a pinching headache and muscle aches for another day or so. Everything was tolerable. I hate that I have to even give that report, but it is what it is. I’ve been told that the side effects should remain the same, but my fatigue will continue to increase. So I apologize in advance if I fall asleep during writing. You’ll notice aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa JUST KIDDING. Sorry, I’m giggling on this side of the computer. Move along.
Follow-up appointments with my general surgeon were good, plastic surgeon was good (more on that below) and oncologist was good. Apparently I lost 3 lbs in the last week and that’s not good. Darn it, I was so proud of myself getting ready for that summer bathing suit. HA!
Let me tell you about this plastic surgeon follow-up though. When I had my double mastectomy I chose to have tissue expanders put in place to eventually get new shiny boobs. They fill the expanders with saline until I get to the size that I want, then they swap them out for soft silicon implants. OK, but the fill. I’m expecting a shot size needle. No. They come out with what looks like a one of those jello-shot syringes! Like, what are you going to do with that? Luckily my boobs are still a little numb, so I actually didn’t feel anything. The visual though, sitting on a table being injected by a jello-shot syringe. Nothing to see here, totally normal. The things we learn…

Next chemo appointment is Wednesday. I expect my hair to start falling out after that, as I’ve been told hair starts falling out in clumps immediately after 2nd round. Don’t worry, there will be posts and pics of a bald Katie and Katie with wigs. Here is one of them.

I hope everyone has a wonderful (make your mammogram appointment) Memorial Day weekend.

I just love your sense of humor! You crack me up! Glad to hear the side effects aren’t TOO bad and that you’re hanging in there. I can tell you’re a tough cookie and you’ve got this💪🏼! Also you are rockin that blonde bob!
You rock Katie!!! Love the blonde!!!❤️
You are so beyond amazing and such a strong person. You are still beautiful and will be without hair and wearing wigs. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday weekend. I am so beyond sad that you never received the medal and prayer card.
Maybe it will turn up at some point. Sorry. I appreciate the thought though!
At first signs of your hair loss why don’t you and hubby get your hair buzzed like Justin does every start to baseball season.
Yes, that is the plan. Actually I told the kids they can shave my head and have fun with it. Maybe a Mohawk first?
You are Rocking this! Hair or no hair You are a Beautiful person inside and out. ❤️❤️. While life has bumps in the road, your positive energy, outlook and humor will get you through this. Thank you so much for taking the time to share.
Love the Amazing You! ❤️
Stay strong Katie! You got this. Have a nice Memorial Day
You look good as a blonde, really suits you! A suggestion, if they still make carnation instant breakfast in the cans, keep them in the fridge so they are really cold. They were the saving grace for my friend when she was having her chemo. She found the chocolate was the best. Good luck and keep up the positive attitude
Hi Katie, sorry I’ve taken so long to comment. I’ve been following these for a few weeks now. Was in shock that I had only found this out so recently and overly emotional posts were all I could muster up so I decided to stay shut and just follow but watching your amazing strength through all this I had to finally say hey I am here and completely in awe of you! I’ll be “right here” following along through your journey and pulling for you in every way possible! XOXO Hugs to Sherman plesae
Thank you Mel!!! ♥️
Blonde looks good on you! Stay strong. I love your openness. I look forward to accompanying you on your journey and listening to Sherman and Tingle on the Drive.
You look so cute as a blonde!!! Glad your first round wasn’t too bad. Thinking of you!!!
