Play Ball!

This is actually a late post. I was looking at random pictures in my phone and came across a picture of myself that I deserve to give myself credit for.

As many of you know, Brian and I have two boys, both of whom are on baseball teams. At some point our oldest talked us into allowing him to try out for a travel team. What were we thinking? In addition to playing on the travel team, he’s (kinda) required to participate in local in-house little league. So if you’ve done your math correctly, that’s TWO teams. That’s two different team practices throughout the week and two different team games. Wait, I have another son also playing baseball. Damnit. So I might have lost count, but somehow I agreed to juggle 3 teams. I even signed up to be Team Coordinator. Freaking overachiever. Who has two thumbs and looks dumb now? THIS GIRL.
Spoiler Alert: I have since stepped down as Team Coordinator given the current situation.

Weekdays are filled with practices, sprinkled with some games and weekends are filled with games, sprinkled with some practices. Since my initial surgery I have been unable to drive. Nana, Papa, Grandma, Grandpa and neighborific friends have come to the rescue. Thank you for all the pick-ups and drop-offs when Brian is taking me to and from everywhere I need to be, which in the beginning was sometimes just laying down and not wanting to be alone.

Last weekend I was feeling great. I wanted out of the house and I really do enjoy watching the boys play baseball (games, not so much practice… be true to yourself). I got myself dressed, jeans for the first time and make-up! Look out little league, here I come. I swapped out my mastectomy hoodie* for my ‘tube holster’ and a real shirt.

*mastectomy hoodie: zip up hoodie with pockets on the insides
to hold your drainage blubs. Not for the weak.

I was also still wearing my super power battery pack too, AKA “The Ducks”. I flippin’ rocked it. I’m fighting Breast Cancer, what’s your super power?

Guns out, Ducks out. Careful of the holsters!

The next day, Danielle was such a trooper to take us to the game in pouring rain. Carried everything for me, slopped through mud, got situated and the game was cancelled.

Look closely, we’re the ones in orange ponchos.

You are a trooper. If it was raining I would have canceled the game, in MY head, before leaving the house. Opened the Cab and would have relaxed in my French terry sweat shirt and pants. 🍷 Here I raise a glass to you and your journey ahead. 💗
