Laughing Encouraged, Tears Allowed

Sherman Family Strong

Hi, I’m Katie, a wife and a mom of two active boys. I’m new to blogging, so bare with me. I was recently diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and thought this would be an excellent way to document my journey. This isn’t just for me though. This is to spread awareness of Breast Cancer, and if I can help just one person with my stories, it makes it all worth it. Thanks for visiting!

    Hi Katie,
I’m Dena Porter, a Drive listener. I was triple positive stage 3 B diagnosed in July 2020. It was my mastectomy pillow that i gave to Sherman to give to you. I also have a resource for you that it the latest in monitoring for recurrence. The company is Natera. (Natera.com) My malignant tissue was sent to them. They drilled it down to the DNA of the cancer. A simple blood draw is taken every 3 months searching for the cancer’s DNA. It takes about 2 weeks to get the results back (it’s a long 2weeks). I’m now 4 sessions. Without the DNA being detected. This is done in addition to PET and MRI scans….
It provides such mental and emotional relief knowing you’re cancer free. Also should it come back, it’s caught much sooner than waiting up to a year for follow up mri, pet scans, ultrasounds or mammograms.

Thank you for this blog and for your efforts to help others effected by this horrible disease.
    Blessings!

I am awe inspired by your journey. Ironically I just started listening to your husbands show a few months ago and heard a few of your phone calls and a little of your story. I believe It wasn’t coincidence I started listening because Then Dec 31 I got my first mammogram ever, then a call back for ultrasound -then Jan 27 a core biopsy and now a scheduled lumpectomy. While they say not cancer-pre cancer -I’ve read enough stories to know it’s not likely gonna stay good news. But you inspired me. If your story becomes mine, I vow to face this this all the grace and dignity that you have shown. (Oh also I have 1 boy that play travel ball and a 8 yr old that does the part time travel/in house thing so I get it.
